In the 1950’s, Dr. Philip Phillips and his wife Della took action to make healthcare available to the underserved minority population in Central Florida.  At that time, African Americans had no doctors and no place to go for health care services. Dr. Phillips donated the land and contributed money to help establish the first acute care African American hospital in Orlando. Guardian Care continues this legacy as a Five Star, 120-bed skilled nursing facility, as rated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, with a significant history of over 60 years.  The Phillips family legacy instilled the need for Dr. Phillips Charities to provide financial assistance to other health related organizations that provide health care solutions in Central Florida such as AdventHealth, Orlando Health, Shepherd’s Hope, Grace Medical, Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families, and UCP of Central Florida.
