OCPS and Dr. Barbara Jenkins Recognized and $250,000 Donated to Scholarship Fund
ORLANDO, Fla. (April 27, 2022) — The Board of Directors of Dr. Phillips Charities has awarded the 2022 Dr. Phillips Leadership Award to Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) and Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins. In the innovative and philanthropic tradition of their founders, Dr. P. Phillips, his wife Della, and their son Howard, the Dr. Phillips Leadership Award, which includes a $250,000 contribution, honors nonprofit organizations that demonstrate community leadership, financial stewardship, and sustainable and impactful programs that change lives.
“We are proud to bestow the 2022 Dr. Phillips Leadership Award on Dr. Barbara Jenkins and Orange County Public Schools,” said Kenneth Robinson, President of Dr. Phillips Charities. “Dr. Phillips Charities celebrates OCPS’ leadership in education and its service as a bedrock for the future of Central Florida, especially with the leadership of Dr. Jenkins over the past 11 years. Not many communities can boast of an award winning, “A” rated school system with a 97.8% graduation rate from its traditional high schools.”
The Dr. Phillips Leadership Award recognizes the dedication of Orange County Public Schools, its teachers, and administrators for their continuous community leadership, high commitment to academic standards, curriculum innovation, and diversity efforts.
“The generosity of Dr. Phillips Charities is just incredible and never ending. I was overwhelmed when I learned of their $250,000 commitment to our scholarship fund for future teachers,” said Superintendent Barbara Jenkins. “As demonstrated by our recent Hall of Fame event, public education is a critical service that reverberates throughout our community. This scholarship will launch more of our students into the profession.”
