Dr. Phillips Charities Awards Grants to Central Florida Nonprofits
$250,000 To Benefit Local Community
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 8, 2022) – Dr. Phillips Charities, a Central Florida philanthropic grant making organization, recently awarded $250,000 in grants to support Central Florida non-profit organizations, including United Arts of Central Florida and the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association.
Dr. Phillips Charities awarded $200,000 to United Arts for capacity and resource building to strengthen and renew United Arts’ program support for local arts organizations. These efforts will allow United Arts to strengthen its ability to respond to the community’s aspirations and rapid growth in the arts and increase access to the arts for the entire community. Since 1977, Dr. Phillips Charities has proudly supported United Arts of Central Florida in building our arts community and increasing community wide access to the arts.
Jennifer Evins, President & CEO of United Arts stated that “United Arts is thrilled with the recent decision of the Board of Dr. Phillips Charities to award United Arts $200,000 in unrestricted operating support over the next two years. This funding is coming at a wonderful time as United Arts was solely focused on supporting the immediate needs of the more than forty local arts and cultural organizations during the pandemic. These unrestricted dollars will allow us to invest in critical operating needs of our organization so that we can continue to respond to the expanding needs of our community and be a reliable and relevant resource to the growing cultural organizations and artists that make up our creative economy.”
In addition to its support for the arts, Dr. Phillips Charities continues its commitment to investing in the future of our children. A $50,000 grant to Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association will support the Children’s Housing Initiative Program. This program will help foster children as they transition out of foster care by providing them with financial knowledge and legal services that help them develop and maintain economic health, avoid homelessness and evictions, and avoid predatory practices once they begin receiving funding from state sources.
In discussing the impact of this grant, Bethanie Barber, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association said, “Dr. Phillips Charities’ support of its Children’s Housing Initiative Program (CHIP) publicly prioritizes the safety and happiness our community’s neediest children. Dr. Phillips Charities sees the goodness, promise, and resiliency of our children preparing to leave foster care and embark upon a life of independence. CHIP enables us to provide our foster children the highest level of support and resources—support that will help them help themselves far into the future. We are grateful for Dr. Phillips Charities’ investment in the future of Orange County’s children.”
