Dr. Phillips Charities Awards $475,000 to Support Health & Wellness Initiatives
ORLANDO, Fla. (April 12, 2023) – Dr. Phillips Charities, the largest grant making organization in Central Florida, announced two grants totaling $475,000 aimed at providing access to health and wellness for the community.
“Dr. Phillips is proud to support Grace Medical Home and LIFT Orlando for the work they are doing to improve the lives of the citizens of Orange County,” said President/CEO, Ken Robinson. “In both cases, citizens are able to access wellness services that extend beyond physical health to include mental health and lifestyle support that will go a long way to improving the quality of life in our community for many.”
The grants include:
Grace Wellness Center – $400,000 has been awarded to Grace Medical Home to renovate a new wellness center across the street from their main location on Concord Street in Orlando. Since beginning to offer mental health counseling to patients in 2014, counseling visits have increased by more than 300% with one out of 3 patients showing symptoms of depression. Through its wellness program, Grace Medical Home uses a multi-disciplinary approach through tailored interventions like one-on-one counseling and group sessions. With such high demand, the program has outgrown its physical space and expanding the physical footprint will help increase access to mental health counseling to uninsured and low income uninsured patients in Orange County. The Wellness Center is expected to open in November 2023. Since 2014, Dr. Phillips has awarded more than $1.3 million to Grace Medical Home.
Heart of West Lakes Wellness Center – $75,000 has been awarded to LIFT Orlando to support the new wellness center in The Communities of West Lakes within Orlando’s 32805 zip code. The approximately 30,000-square-foot building is designed to provide a place for residents and visitors to gather, connect, learn and thrive by providing convenient access to holistic health, financial, and lifestyle services. The building features first-class amenities including a Legacy Café, the West Lakes Financial Wellbeing Center, the Florida Blue Center Orlando West Lakes, the Heart of West Lakes event space, and green spaces. In partnership with Community Health Centers, comprehensive healthcare services are also provided to combat the area’s lack of access to healthcare services. Previously, Dr. Phillips Charities has awarded over $250,000 to LIFT Orlando.
