Where's the Beef? It's Headed to Second Harvest

Second Harvest Food Bank

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 31, 2016) – Dr. Phillips Charities recently donated fresh beef in two half-steer segments to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, after purchasing them at the Central Florida Fair Market Auction to support Future Farmers of America and 4-H students. The steers were then donated to local non-profit organizations.

The donation served as an educational component to Second Harvest’s 14-week Culinary Training Program, which provides qualified, at-risk and economically disadvantaged adults with the culinary and life skills training needed to pursue a sustainable career in the food industry.

“We’re inspired every day by all that Second Harvest does for the community,” said Ken Robinson, president of Dr. Phillips Charities. “When I learned about the organization’s culinary training program, I knew it would be truly deserving of this unique donation.”

During the lesson, a Whole Foods butcher instructed approximately 15 students in the program on how to prepare and package the meat. The donation was then picked up by Second Harvest’s partner agencies and re-distributed to families in need.
