Dr. Phillips Charities Kids Day Gets Wicked

Over 250 children invited to lunch and a show at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts during Wicked.

January 21, 2017Orlando, FL – Dr. Phillips Charities invites over 250 children from area non-profit organizations for lunch and the show Wicked at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Invited non-profit organizations serve Orange and Osceola counties.  This year invitees include, Edgewood Children’s Ranch, The Boys & Girls of Central Florida, The YMCA of Central Florida through their Teen Achievers Program, the Kate & Justin Rose Foundation, ELEVATE Orlando and select students from Dr. Phillips High School’s arts magnet program.

This is the second time Dr. Phillips Charities has extended the opportunity.  During the 2015 Christmas season over three-hundred students experienced lunch and the show How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Musical!  “We are proud to support these organizations who inspire hope and opportunity for children in our local community,” said Ken Robinson, President Dr. Phillips Charities.

Before the show, lunch was served in the DeVos Family room.   This year’s guest presenter, is an eleven- year- old professional actress and singer from Orlando, Florida.  Her name is Julia Jordan and she just returned home a three-month acting job for Universal Studios in Japan.  Her motivational presentation included movie clips of her in the in the film “Dolphin Tale 2” with Harry Connick Jr. and Morgan Freeman. She spoke to students about dreaming big and working hard as the key to realizing dreams come true. After all, it was her tenacity and desire to work hard and never give up that really stood out. 

“This program supports our vision of Arts For Every Life and we’re delighted to provide this opportunity for these children to be impacted by the experience.” said Kathy Ramsberger, president & CEO of Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
