James W. Ferber

Jim Ferber served as President/CEO of the Central Florida YMCA from 1993 to 2015. Instead of being called "retired", he prefers being referred to "as an alumnus." During his time as President, he ushered in a new era of growth and relevancy that has made the association one of the largest, most dynamic Y's in the nation.   A $70 million organization that serves more than 235,000 residents per year, the Y focuses its programs and services in three strategic areas:  Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

With a lifelong passion for helping people and communities thrive, Ferber inspired his team to tackle many of the most pressing issues of the day --- things like preventing chronic disease, improving education, instilling values in youth and strengthening fragile communities.

As a result, nearly 10,000 youth per year benefit from the Y's academically based after-school and summer programs.  Another 50,700 residents per year lead healthier lives through the Y's personalized, prevention-based approach to health and wellness.

Ferber oversaw more than $150 million in capital expansions over the Y's six-county region.  Many projects were funded through the Y's incredible partnership with Dr. Phillips Charities, which has invested more than $30 million to build, modernize and expand Y facilities, particularly in "outreach" communities where Y-quality programs and services are needed the most.

To ensure the Y's future impact and relevancy, Ferber guided the organization's three long-range strategic plans, most recently for 2014-2018.

An active volunteer, Ferber has served on boards for many local organizations, including Dr. Phillips Charities, the Orlando Chamber of Commerce, Florida Citrus Sports, the UCF Health Services Administration Advisory Board and others.

Reflecting 40-plus years of leadership within the Y-USA system, Ferber has been honored with numerous national awards.  He was also nominated by the Orlando Business Journal as one of Central Florida's Most Influential Men.  A graduate of the University of Akron, Ferber is the proud father of a grown daughter and devoted husband to Debbie, his beautiful and kind wife of 41 years.
